| There are several different illnesses that are common to felines. When owning a cat, it is best to be able to spot these illnesses as soon as possible. The following ailments are some of the more common that are more likely to occur.
The first is a urinary tract infection, early signs are that your cat may whine or cry while using their litter box. Another symptom may be finding blood in the urine or having accidents around the house even if the cat is well trained. Some cases of urinary tract infection will disappear before you even realize that the cat is ill. Even if your pet seems to be recovering, it's best to take it to your veterinarian, as they will prescribe antibiotics and check for other issues. Another common illness is an upper respiratory infection that, in cats, is similar to the common cold in humans. The good news is that most cats that stay indoors won't ever catch this infection as it is primarily being exposed to other cats that cause it to spread. Much like humans, felines can also have contract diabetes. One of the earliest indicators of diabetes in your cat is an amplified appetite. You may also notice that they are drinking liquids and urinating much more often than normal. As diabetes develops, your cat may become less energetic and their fur may lose its patina. They may also become weak, tired, and may vomit. Other symptoms include diarrhea, and limited muscle movement. You may also notice indicators of dehydration as well as the fact that breathing may become labored. Simple blood tests by your veterinarian will screen your animal for diabetes. |
